Hi Everybody, *Hi Candice* Welcome back and I hope that everyone is doing well with their upcoming and ongoing rush/recruitment weeks. I can't wait to attend upcoming pledge ceremonies! Below are a few general updates for January 2010 that you can feel free to pass along to your chapter. Updates on Membership Goals (after reported Fall AAMDs): The current Section 50 Membership Goals for 2009 - 2010 are 353 Actives, 350 pledges, 309 initiates. All 6 chapters reported their fall pledge classes/new initiates and charter reaffirmations. The current statistics as of January 2010 are 362 Actives, 228 Pledges, 186 Initiates. I am pleased to announce that we have met/exceeded the Active Goals and we are 65% of the way to our 2009 - 2010 pledge total. Youth Service Grant applications due by Feb 1st: The APO Youth Service Grant Program provides funds, in the form of a grant, for Alpha Phi Omega chapters. Each year, grants are awarded to qualifying chapters to conduct a service project that relates to socially positive programs for pre-college-age youth. The Alpha Phi Omega Endowment Trust facilitates the funding for this special program. The APO Youth Service Grant Review Committee evaluates the applications and funds as many appropriate projects as available monies will allow. Grants range from $100 to $500 each. The committee will notify all chapters submitting applications when selections have been determined. Remember that the applications can be submitted via postal mail to the National Office or email to

Brothers, I am pleased to announce that the Parkland College Interest Group has completed all of their requirements and paperwork to be recognized as a Petitioning Group, and (pending final approval) will be going through their first Petitioning Ceremony in December. This marks their entry into the final stage of becoming the 7th chapter of our section, and also their first exposure to an APO ceremony. There will be 13 members of the group (12 students, 1 advisor) who will become the first Petitioning Members for Parkland. This is an exciting occasion not only for them, but for Section 50 as this is our first extension effort since the section was founded. The Petitioning Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th at 7:00pm in the Swetland Assembly room of St. John's Catholic Newman Center on the University of Illinois campus. The ceremony will be conducted by Alpha Alpha. We have not had a Petitioning Ceremony conducted in this area for at least 20 years, so this is a fantastic opportunity for brothers and pledges to witness something that very few members of the fraternity ever get to see, as well as show support for our new Petitioners and help make their first formal exposure to Alpha Phi Omega a positive one. There will be a short reception following the ceremony. All members of APO are welcome to attend and show support for this future chapter. If you or anyone from your chapter will be in attendance, please RSVP that information to me so we have an idea of how many people will be there. Because the Petitioning Ceremony is equivalent to the Pledge Ceremony, those who are still pledges or neophytes are welcome to attend. Attire is business casual, just like for other ceremonies. The Newman Center is located at 604 E. Armory Ave in Champaign, and there is parking available across the street in the library parking lot, in the parking garage at Fifth and Daniel three blocks north-west, and the parking lot next to the Education building two blocks south. Once the ceremony has started, we will not allow anybody to enter, so please plan your travel according to ensure that you are there a little bit before 7:00pm. If you have any questions, you can contact me by email (
