Role Call and Awards

Role Call will take place on Friday evening. Rules and Guidelines for role call will be announced soon.

 

Section 50 Award Nominations are NOW OPEN. All awards nominations must be submitted via email to the Section 50 Brotherhood Chair brotherhood@apos50.org by March 8, 2008. Below you will find the past award recipients and the awards criteria.

    * Most Improved Chapter: Theta Epsilon (Illinois State University)

    * Service Project of the Year: Merit Badge Day (Theta Epsilon)

Section 50 Most Improved Chapter The Most Improved Chapter award is presented to the Chapter that has made the greatest strides in improvement in the last year.

Please describe in detail how this Chapter has improved, based on the three Cardinal Principles and include details on the following criteria and other information:

A) Significant increase in membership (include numbers, if possible);
B) Improvement in quality and quantity of service projects;
C) Increased involvement in Sectional events;
D) The nominee Chapter's Greek or college name;
E) The nominator’s name and Chapter.

Section 50 Friend of the Year The Friend of the Year award is presented to the individual who made the most significant contribution toward the Cardinal Principle of Friendship.

Please describe the Brother's effort at making friends and welcoming new members and include details on the following criteria and other information:

A) Openly welcomes new members;
B) Socializes with all Brothers (is not exclusive) and has a genuine interest in maintaining friendships;
C) Puts forth an effort to meet "strangers" from other Chapters;
D) How long this brother has been in Alpha Phi Omega, including pledgeship;
E) The nominee Chapter's Greek or College name;
F) The nominator’s name and Chapter.

Section 50 Service Project of the Year Describe in detail a specific large event or a long-term, regularly scheduled service project. It may include other Chapters or organizations from the campus or community.
Please explain this service project effort and include details on the following criteria and other information:

A) The chapter(s) who organized the event;
B) The name of the individual or organization being served;
C) The number of people involved in the project;
D) The amount of funds raised (if applicable);
E) How often the event occurs;
F) Any other significant details about the project;
G) The nominator’s name and Chapter.

Section 50 Leader of the Year The Leader of the Year award is presented to the individual who made the most significant contribution toward the Cardinal Principle of Leadership.
Please list offices/committee positions held and length of time. Also, describe, in as much detail as possible, in what ways this person tries to include others in activities, and how the Chapter reacts to events/committees "led" by this person (remember we are not looking for a dictator here!) Please describe the Brothers’ efforts at being a leader and include details on the following criteria and other information:

A) Holds positions on the Executive Board or as committee chair within the Chapter (and possibly leadership positions in other campus organizations);
B) Helps get others involved so they can learn to become leaders;
C) Serves on a committee or as a voting delegate at the Sectional, Regional, or National level;
D) The nominee's name and Chapter;
E) The nominator’s name and Chapter.

Section 50 Advisor of the Year The Advisor of the Year award is presented to the outstanding Chapter Advisor who lends guidance and counsel to a Chapter.

Please describe how this advisor has given of themselves to the Chapter (while not trying to control it) and/or Section and include details on the following criteria and other information:
A) Actively involved in Chapter events;

B) Encourages leadership skills in Chapter members;
C) Always readily available as a resource;
D) Consistent commitment to the Chapter;
E) How long this advisor has been involved with Alpha Phi Omega including pledging (when applicable);
F) The nominee's name and Chapter;
G) The nominator’s name and Chapter.

Section 50 Chapter of the Year Please describe in detail the program of the Chapter in regards to the three Cardinal Principles. Explain activities and communications with other Chapters in the Section, and also include the number of actives/pledges in the Chapter and average attendance at meetings/projects.

The following criteria and other information should be included in the nomination:

A) Involvement with other Chapters of the Section (and/or other Sections);
B) Active programs that exemplify the three Cardinal Principles;
C) A high percentage of attendance at Chapter event;
D) The nominee Chapter's Greek or college name;
E) The nominator’s name and Chapter.

Section 50 Road Trip Rewards For each visit that a chapter in Section 50 attends that is outside of their chapter $1 will be awarded per member in attendance (excluding Section/Region conferences and National Convention).

Therefore invite other chapters to your events and travel to other chapter events. Then email the Section 50 Brotherhood Chair with your chapter information, the date of the event, name of event, number and names of member in attendance.

The chapter that travels the most will be awarded the appropriate monetary amount up to $200.

Section 50 Distinguished Service Key The Sectional Distinguished Service Key is awarded to an individual who has given outstanding service at the Sectional level. Take careful consideration in preparing the nomination, as the Distinguished Service Key is one of the highest awards an Alpha Phi Omega member can receive. This Brother should also fulfill the three Cardinal Principles as a member of Alpha Phi Omega. It is recommended that a candidate should have been active for at least one academic year prior to consideration.

A nominee for this award requires a three-fourths vote (3/4) to receive the award. Please describe how this brother has exemplified the three Cardinal Principles and include details on the following criteria and other information:

A) Commitment;
B) Reliability and availability;
C) Quality and quantity of service;
D) Enthusiasm;
E) Diversity of involvement;
F) Unselfish giving of time, service, and money;
G) Outstanding differences made in the Section;
H) Past and present efforts and accomplishments for a consistent period (at least one academic year);
I) How long this brother has been in Alpha Phi Omega, including pledging;
J) The nominee's name and Chapter;
K) The nominator’s name and Chapter.
